Free Veteran’s Day Printables
We love our freedom, and we love the men and women who’ve fought to preserve it. So, in honor of Veteran’s Day this week, I wanted to share a few free printables with you.
In Flanders Fields
First, I have a free printable copy of the beautiful old WWI poem, “In Flanders Fields.”
Artillery commander and brigade doctor, Major John McCrae, wrote this poem after being called upon to conduct a burial service for a fallen comrade. Legend has it he was dissatisfied with what he had written and threw it in the trash. We only know about it today because someone came behind him, pulled it out of the rubbish bin. The poem eventually found it’s way into a newspaper and has been well-loved ever since.
I’m planning to commit this one to memory and to have my children do the same. Not only is it a historically significant poem, but it also bears our family’s name. And it was written by a man who, like my own dear husband, served his country as an army doctor.
Acrostic Template for Veteran’s Day
In case your children would prefer to write their own poems for Veteran’s Day, I also designed the following little Veteran’s Dauy printable acrostic pattern to use for that purpose.
Free Military Anthem Printables

Finally, I ran across this little video on Facebook awhile back and thought I’d share it today, as well. It tells the story of a decorated veteran who waited 67 years before receiving the medals he earned in WWII, and the young student who brought that oversight to the government’s attention. Very sweet!
A Freedom-Loving Journal
Most of these Veteran’s Day printables were originally published in God Bless America, my devotional journal for patriots.
My goal in creating this little journal was to inspire readers to think deeply about what it means to be an American. What is our responsibility to the rest of the world? How can we preserve the freedoms with which we’ve been blessed? And how do we ensure the guiding principles on which our nation was established are never forgotten?
I hope you have a wonderful holiday. And remember, if you enjoy living in a free country, thank a veteran!
