Coloring with Clay (Timberdoodle Review)
In keeping with my longstanding tradition of doing my Christmas shopping online from trusted vendors like Timberdoodle, I ordered a big box of craft kits and games for our kids the first part of December. I plan to review all of those items in the next month or so. But today, I want to tell you about Faber-Castell’s Coloring with Clay kit.
Since the kit is designed for ages 5 and up, my 8-year old Abby loved it! Just as I suspected she would.
The kit includes everything needed to complete four designs: Pre-printed art boards with detachable easels. Sculpting tools. A rolling mat. Step-by-step instructions. And more than enough clay to finish the projects.
We’ve worked with modeling clay before, and we’ve colored with everything from crayons to markers to oil pastels. But we’d never tried coloring with clay before. This project was unlike anything any of us had ever done.
The rolling mat provided a clean, smooth work surface, and the sculpting tools allowed her to add fine details to the project boards.
There was plenty of clay to finish not only the four pictures included with the kit, but extra projects her older sister dreamed up and pieced together with the colorful clay and cute photographs she found on the Internet.
Abby really enjoyed Coloring with Clay, and I appreciated the hours of quiet crafting time and the new techniques she learned completing these projects.
Coloring with Clay can be purchased as a stand-alone project and is also a part of Timberdoodle’s 1st Grade Curriculum Kit.
