This a big day for our family. After years of planning and dreaming and schooling and preparing and training and working SO HARD, my son is finally joining his father in practice. And today is his first day doing anesthesia cases at the hospital. Isn’t that exciting?
For as long as I can remember, Samuel has listened intently to his father’s “work stories” around the dinner table — admittedly not always the kind of stories most people would want to hear while they’re eating. But they served to cement his desire to “be a doctor” when he grew up.
No matter what kind of jobs they hold, most parents have lots of valuable work-related lessons they could share with their kids. Here are a few discussion prompts to draw those out and to get kids thinking about the kind of work they’d like to do in the future.
