The 23rd Psalm (Free Printable)
Since New Year’s, I’ve been sending my kids and grandkids monthly memory work challenges to motivate them to memorize scripture. So far we’ve covered the Ten Commandments, the Days of Creation, the Fruit of the Spirit, the Roman Road, and various other assorted verses, but this month we’re learning the 23rd Psalm.
Whoever can quote it to me by the end of the month earns a prize. Since we have such a wide range of ages, I modify the passage to accommodate different skill levels. This month, ages 1-6 only need to learn the first 2 verses to win the prize. Ages 7-11 must memorize the first four, and ages 12 and up have to commit the entire passage to memory to qualify.
Here’s a printable I created to make sure we are all learning the same translation, in this instance, the New King James Version:
It reads:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;dYou anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
