Watercolor with Me Forest Bundle
When I first started shopping at Timberdoodle (over 30 years ago), the thing that drew me was the large variety of books and toys they carried that were designed to develop critical thinking skills. But the product line I’ve learned to love every bit as much as the smart games is the wonderfully varied art kits they offer — like the new Watercolor with Me Forest Bundle we tried out recently.
The bundle includes everything you need to get started in watercolor — and to improve quickly! Supplies include a compact set of very nice watercolor pignments, black and white pens, a wide assortment of brushes, and Dana Fox’s delightful book In the Forest.
The biggest challenge is deciding which project to tackle first. The pages of the book are made of heavy paper suitable for painting, so one could paint directly over the sketches on the facing page of each set of instructions.
But since I have several children interested in watercolor, we decided to paint on separate watercolor stock (not included) so as to preserve the book so multiple children could paint the same projects.
Rachel began with the basics by painting the small sample card that fits neatly into the travel-sized box of watercolors. Each square is labeled with the color that should go in it, with sufficient space to paint a full gradient of shades.
Abby started at the very beginning of the book in the Watercolor with Me Forest Bundle and completed the practice exercises before attempting more involved studies.
She’s ready to move onto the chickadee next. Rachel picked a bird for her first project, as well. She undertook the pretty hummingbird further into the book, with admirable results:
If you have any artistic souls at your house — or if you’d like to spark such an interest in less enthusiastic students — the Watercolor with Me Forest Bundle is a great place to start. It is available through Timberdoodle for individual purchase or as part of their new 2024 Ninth Grade Curriculum Kit.
And while you’re on the Timberdoodle website, I’d encourage you to look around. We love everything we’ve ever ordered from this small family-owned company!
