Level Up Your Singing Voice with Vocal Gym

Vocal Gym

When my daughter recently expressed an interest in improving her singing voice, I turned to Vocal Gym for help.

As someone who sang in choirs all through junior high, high school, college, and beyond, I was thrilled when my daughter told me she wanted to sing with the local homeschool choir this year.

Vocal lessons greatly benefited me when I was her age, and I wanted her to have similar training. The Vocal Gym program begins with very basic concepts.

It explains what is happening in our bodies when we sing and describes the different muscle groups we must use to form, sustain, and shape the sounds we sing.

I love the step-wise lessons provided in the program, and how user-friendly it is. My daughter has been able to go through several sections a day and complete the assignments and exercises with very little help from me.

The Vocal Gym makes use of a wide range of instructors, and the material in each lesson builds on what was learned in earlier sections.

Once the framework is laid and the students have a clear understanding of what is expected in practice (and reassured that progress will come with consistency), they’re ready to begin singing themselves.

One of my favorite features of Vocal Gym is the vocal exercises included. Students can click play and sing along with the ascending and descending scales provided in each vocalization exercise.

It’s a great way to train your voice (and your ear) and provides a great way to warm up before choral concerts and/or voice recitals.

Vocal Gym includes a Q&A section for each of the seven aspects of good singing, in which the most commonly asked questions are thoroughly addressed.

Vocal Gym even provides a breakdown of the skills being taught and the student’s progress in each area of expertise. I am already hearing improvement in my daughter’s vocal strength and intonation as she practices the training exercises and applies those same skills to the choral music she’s learning this semester.
