Word on Wednesday: Psalm 45:4

My youngest child turned five last month. Earlier this year, she learned how to pedal her bike without training wheels.

Clearly, she’s not a baby anymore. So this week, we’ve been cleaning closets, clearing out crib mobiles and baby blankets and cotton onesies, getting ready for a garage sale, bidding adieu to that sweet baby season of life we’ve enjoyed for so many years now.

Even so, my job is far from over.

I may not be changing diapers or cuddling newborns anymore, but my children still need lots of attention. They need nourishing meals and clean clothes. They need help and guidance and counsel and instruction.

Sometimes they need a steadying hand. Sometimes they just need the knowledge that we are behind them, cheering them on.

As a parent, I’ve got to keep pedaling. Got to keep working. When I put my feet up and try to coast, things go downhill fast.

The good news is, Christ rides ahead of me. He leads the way. He empowers me to keep going.

The closer I follow after Him, the easier my job becomes. (Don’t they call that drafting?)

If I want my children to walk in truth, humility and justice, if I want them to accomplish amazing things in life, then that’s the way to go.

His victory has already been won, and He will lead us to triumph, as well.

This week’s verse is Psalm 45:4:

In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.
