Word on Wednesday: 1 Peter 2:2
Of the twelve babies I’ve mothered, a couple have sucked fingers and two or three have taken pacifiers, but the majority of them have refused to be satisfied by anything but Mama’s milk.
Babies want the real deal. They long for milk. They crave it. They squawk when they don’t get it. Although fingers and NUKs and teething rings may pacify them temporarily, they won’t satisfy babies for long.
1 Peter 2:2 says Christians should yearn for Scripture the way a baby longs for milk:
“Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” (1 Peter 2:2)
Is that true in your life? Do you hunger after God’s Word? Do you desire it so intensely that nothing else will satisfy you?
Or are you accepting a substitute? Are you allowing yourself to be pacified by things that comfort and make you feel good, but offer no real substance or nourishment to help you grow?
This week’s verse can be found in the fourth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:
And for extra practice on 1 Peter 2:2 (and other passages), I’ve made more handwriting printables, as well:
Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first three sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:

And I’ve also uploaded a progress chart to help you keep track of which verses your child has already memorized (some of the verses listed are from sets of flashcards that will be published in the future).
May God honor your efforts to hide His Word in your heart!
Ha, ha, ha. Just remembered a dream from several years ago! A toddler in a wet diaper is running away outside, and I’m chasing the child. So glad to finally get the diaper off that child, I swung the heavy wet diaper in one hand, back and forth in victory!! It was time for no more diapers; that message was very clear in the dream! I knew too that this was a spiritual dream!
Hebrews5: 12- 14 talks about spiritual maturity: “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” Jesus was called a Teacher. See how He taught and teaches!! “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11: 29, 30)
