Four of our children are already grown and gone.

One (so far) is married with children. Since his family lives in town and his kids are best friends with their littlest aunts and uncles, we see a lot of them and get to hear most of their news firsthand.

The other three live several hours away — two are finishing up their final year of dental school in San Antonio and another is in his third year of medical school in Houston. We see those children much less frequently, but they are good about calling home or Facetiming us at least once a week.

Although they sometimes call because they are feeling down or have some pressing need they want to discuss with Mom and Dad, the majority of the time, they call just to share all the wonderful things that are happening in their lives and all the new things they are learning in school.

I love that fact!

It is always such an encouragement for us to hear good reports from these grown children. Of course, I’m glad for them to call us with their problems, as well, since it helps us know better how to pray for them, but nothing beats good news for refreshing my spirit and making my heart happy.

And that’s the whole point of this week’s verse. Proverbs 25:25 says:

“Like cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a distant land.”

It can be found in the fifth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:

And for extra practice on this week’s verse, I’ve made a Proverbs 25:25 handwriting printable, as well:

Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first four sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:

And I’ve also uploaded a progress chart to help you keep track of which verses your child has already memorized (some of the verses listed are from sets of flashcards that will be published in the future).

May God honor your efforts to hide His Word in your heart!

  1. I kind of sense in the spirit, already yesterday, that I’m going to get some good news from Croatia! Yes. What I was seeing was that way back in the late 70’s, a ministry would send scriptures in the mail to countries closed to the gospel. We would just hope and pray that they would get to a home address in these countries! Yesterday, my heart was delighting in the possibility of 40 years beyond the late 70’s there would be everlasting fruit; fruit that abounds to God’s glory: families having received salvation in Jesus Christ!!
