Word on Wednesday: 2 Samuel 22:10
My twelve-year-old Isaac and I took a short trip this morning and had about 30 minutes in the car together to talk. We discussed all sorts of things, but during the course of that half-hour conversation, he mentioned he was considering a career in engineering, because he was interested in building a jet-powered propulsion suit — “the kind Iron Man wears.”
I smiled and nodded my head, considering the feasibility, before Isaac quickly continued, “I know you probably don’t believe I can, but I think it might really be possible.”
“Are you kidding?” I reassured him. “I was just thinking how cool it would be to fly around in one of those things and wondering how you might get it to work. You must have forgotten who you were talking to. This is Mom, here. When I was your age, I dreamed about going to the moon.”
(Space travel is still on my Empty Nest List, by the way.)
I think it’s cool to dream big dreams and to stretch the limits of technology.
But do you know what’s even cooler? The fact that we serve such an awesome God.
The winds and the waves obey Him. He doesn’t need a prehensile propulsion suit to get around. The resurrected Christ ascended into heaven without jet power. (Acts 1:9) Someday He will return again “in the clouds with great power and glory” (Mark 13:26), but He won’t be dressed as Iron Man when He comes.
In the meantime, He rules from Heaven, watching over us and protecting us, interceding and intervening on our behalf.
This week’s memory verse is 2 Samuel 22:10-11:
“He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.”
It can be found in the fifth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:
And for extra practice, I’ve made more handwriting printables, as well:
Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first four sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:
