Found: A New Look at an Old Favorite (Book Review)
As you know if you follow this blog, I received a big delivery of books and games last month to review for Timberdoodle, including Found, a book I reviewed with my grandkids this week.
In this oversized board book, author Sally Lloyd-Jones retells an old favorite: the 23rd Psalm.
Although I love the lyrical flow of the King James Version I memorized as a child, I appreciate the wisdom of putting the beloved “Shepherd’s Psalm” into language young children can easily understand.
“I shall not want” becomes “I have everything I need.”
And “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me” is translated “Even when I walk through dark, scary, lonely places, I won’t be afraid. Because my Shepherd knows where I am. He is here with me.”
Where Found really shines is in the beautiful illustrations by Jago. The cool palette of blues and greens evokes a sense of peace and calm.
My grandchildren enjoyed pouring over the pictures on each page as much as I did.
If our goal is to hide the Truth of Scripture deep in our children’s hearts from a young age — as I believe it should be — then books like Found provide an easy and engaging way to do so.
You can order Found through Timberdoodle. And when you do, be sure to sign up for their Doodle Dollar Program to earn 5% back on every purchase.

This is a sweet picture book.
I think so, too, MaryAnne!
