Mighty Fortress Coloring Page

Reformation Day is October 31. One of the ways our family celebrates is by breaking out our hymnals and singing some of Martin Luther’s hymns. My personal favorite? A Mighty Fortress is Our God.

One of the things I like most about old hymns is the fact that so many are so rich in doctrine. Moreover, the truths they teach can be traced straight back to the Bible. Just meditate for a moment on the words of this one. I’ve included supporting scriptures after each stanza. Just click on the references to read the related passages yourself.

A Mighty Fortress

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing.
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow’r are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing.
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing.
