Be My Disciple Coloring Page
The Be My Disciple Coloring Page I’m sharing today features the words of Jesus. He declares, “If anyone wants to be My disciple, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
The Narrow Way
Denying self. Shouldering a cross. That’s a tall order, isn’t it? It differs sharply from the easy-believism that is so popular these days.
Some people think you can walk an aisle, say a prayer, and be done with it. Free grace, eternal life, no strings attached. Live however you please, and still go to heaven when you die.
Yet, this is not the life Jesus tells His followers to expect. He warns:
- “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
- “If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first…. Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well.” – John 15:18-20
- “So be on your guard. You will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.” – Mark 13:9
So, yes, the salvation Christ offers is free. But it doesn’t come cheap. It carried a steeper price than any of us could ever pay ourselves, but Jesus paid it in full on our behalf.
You can do nothing to earn this gift, but neither can you accept it and remain unchanged. Those who truly place their hope and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior will find their hearts transformed by the power of the gospel. Our salvation cost Jesus his life, and He bids all who would follow Him to voluntarily lay down our lives, as well. To die to ourselves and our own desires. To repent of sin and, by His grace, forsake living in bondage to it any longer.
Christ’s sacrificial death paid the penalty for our sin and freed us from its power. Following Him means walking in victory over sin. Any religious belief that isn’t accompanied by heart change and repentance is not saving faith.
