Taught from Childhood Coloring Page
For this week’s “Scripture Sunday,” I’m sharing this Taught from Childhood coloring page. It features 2 Timothy 3:15.
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.”
Don’t you love that? Of course, as a parent, I know salvation is all of grace. And that includes my children’s salvation. It is the work of God from start to finish.
Yet, we are not passive observers of this process. God charges us to “train up” our children “in the way they should go.” (Proverbs 22:6) He commands us to “lay up His Word in our hearts and souls” and to diligently teach it to our children, “speaking of it when we sit at home, when we walk along the way, when we lie down, and when we rise up.” (Deuteronomy 11:18-19)
That’s a lot of teaching. A lot of discussing the Word. It’s a big responsibility and a high privilege!
We get to cooperate with God’s plan by teaching our children the Holy Scripture “from childhood.” And by praying for their souls, that the Word of God would take root deep within their hearts, that they might receive the salvation that comes only through trusting in Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord! It is only by His grace and mercy that any of this is possible.
There is no substitute for faithfully reading the Word of God, both in your private devotions and aloud to your family. For my personal reading, I use this One-Year Bible Reading Plan. For family devotions, we read the and discuss the Bible together, but sometimes supplement that reading with children’s devotionals. Here are a few we’ve used in recent years:
- Big Beliefs by David Helm
- Indescribable by Louie Giglio
- The Ology by Marty Machowski
