Pat-a-Cake Nursery Rhymes (Timberdoodle Review)
Timberdoodle recently sent me another component of their Tiny Tots Curriculum Kit to review: a book called Pat-a-Cake: First Book of Nursery Rhymes.
I’ve always loved reading poetry to my little ones (big ones, too!), and the adorable illustrations in this volume make it an especially fun addition to our children’s library.
I read Pat-a-Cake aloud to my granddaughter Ellen this week, and she sat mesmerized through the entire book, just soaking it all in.
Each selection includes guidelines for singing the songs and/or doing the motions that traditionally accompany the rhymes. The pages are thick and sturdy so as to hold up to less-than-gentle handling by even the tiniest, most tenacious fingers.
While most of the poems in this particular collection are beloved children’s classics and already familiar to me, a couple were brand new. How did I manage to raise twelve children without ever hearing “Jelly Jelly on a Plate” or “A Wise Old Owl?” (I especially like that last one!)
Even with her aunt snapping photos all around us, Ellen remained intently focused on the poems, tunes, and hand motions Grandma was teaching her. Abby had to call her name repeatedly to get her to look up, however briefly, and smile for the camera.
Then it was right back to the book and listening to Grandma sing the tunes and act out the motions.
Do you have little ones in your family who’d enjoy reading Pat-a-Cake Nursery Rhymes as much as Ellen does? You can purchase your copy through Timberdoodle, either individually or as part of their 2022 Tiny Tots Curriculum Kit.
While you’re on the Timberdoodle website, I’d encourage you to look around. We love everything we’ve ever ordered from this small family-owned company!
