Learn to Paint in Acrylics (Timberdoodle Review)
My daughter and I tried out another fun project from Timberdoodle Co over the weekend: Learn to Paint with Acrylics.
The kit includes everything you’ll need to complete 30 small paintings, plus project ideas for 20 more. The paints, paper, and brushes are all of top quality, and the book discusses some basic techniques in addition to providing step-by-step instructions for completing 50 small paintings.
The hardest part? Deciding which project to start with! Abby settled on a painting of a pink envelope for her first project.
The paint provided good coverage — although white areas will appear whitest if you leave them blank to begin with. Darker colors tend to show through the white if you try to paint in white elements last.
Fortunately, Abby didn’t have to do that, so the white paper insert in her pink envelope looked pristine. And I love the effects of the shadowing on the paper clip and envelope edge, don’t you?
This first painting took less than 20 minutes to complete, then she was ready to try another. There is a wide variety of small paintings to choose from, which varied level of detail, as well.
While Abby painted her envelope, I tried my hand at a daisy. As you can see, most of these small paintings are very stylized and use bright, vibrant colors.
My daughter really enjoyed this Learn to Paint with Acrylics kit and is looking forward to painting more of the projects in the future. So am I! It’s a fun thing to do together.
