Bible Memory ABC Printable
When our older children were young, we had a little spiral-bound Bible Memory ABC book. We worked our way through it, committing to memory a Scripture verse for each letter of the alphabet.
They loved racing each other to see who could say the verses first, and I loved the fact that they were hiding God’s word in their hearts.
We still have that original little book — none the worse for wear — but as it omitted several of my personal favorites, I decided to put together my own little alphabetical list of Bible memory verses.
My younger children keep these in their skill-and-drill notebooks, and we are working our way through all twenty-six.
A = “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6
B = “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
C = “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3
… and so forth and so on.

For me what was notable about the book, if it’s the same book, was the Charismatic Catholic movement, and how Maria did receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. More people need to know about this.
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. It’s early June, and I just read this comment in early April, that I myself made about memorizing the alphabet scriptures that you passed on to us. I did start out to do it, but I have not accomplished it. I find scripture sticks to me when I have great desire to keep that specific scripture for an applicable purpose. I remember learning scripture in my childhood weekly for catechism. It was a very good start. Then when I got born again, I bought those little plastic boxes with scripture cards. Oh how I love memorizing those scriptures. The Word of God was so alive when I got born again; and they are still alive today. Now the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit put to good use in prayer and intercession, and abiding in me and I in Him!
I don’t know why, but the Von Trapp’s escape from Austria via the cemetery and the convent is indelibly in my heart and mind. I just checked my heart to see why. Next, I saw Maria living in Vermont, USA. She was a Catholic that was a part of the Charismatic Catholic Movement! Yes! I have a grown niece who had a paperback book she let me read over 10 years ago. The book was Maria’s Von Trapp’s story including her years after escaping Austria. Such a delightful book. I wonder if it’s still available to read?
Is this the book you read?
I read it aloud to our children several years ago (before our visit to Salzburg). We loved it. I was especially impressed by the fact that Maria was pregnant at the time her family was crossing over the Alps in their flight from Austria. It was a high risk pregnancy, the doctors had placed her on complete bedrest just two weeks before she had to flee for her life. It’s a fascinating story. I love the musical, but I was absolutely inspired by the book!
Oh you really are a Sound of Music fan! I got to go to Salzburg too where the cemetery was from the movie!
Thank you Jennifer. That means a lot to me: to be a blessing to you as a parent and your children and the parents and children to come. Thank You Father, for restoration! You said You would restore!! We give You glory! We give You thanks.
“Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice,” (John 18:37)
Hey, I didn’t tell you the doh-ray-me song was from the Sound of Music! lol. How did you know the tune was from the Sound of Music? Did someone else tell you?
No, Elsie. I’ve just seen Sound of Music so many times, I have it memorized. I’ve told my family many times that if I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life, that would be it. It has everything: great music, beautiful scenery, wonderful family values, history, love, and adventure. When we got married, I walked the aisle to the same march as was played at the Von Trapp’s wedding (minus the “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria” lyrics) and we walked out to “Climb Every Mountain.” I also insisted my children learn the original words to “Do Re Mi” before we backpacked Europe, so that we could sing it together at Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg, although the boys drew the line at wearing matching lederhosen sewn from green floral drapery fabric while we were there!
I don’t know the author of the song. It’s to the tune from the Sound of Music titled: “Doh a Deer, A Female Deer.” “Don’t you know that Jesus died./ Raised again in three short days. /Me, the one for whom He died./ Far, He took my sins away. /Soh, I’m livin’ in His love./ Love I never knew before./ That reminds me Grace is free! (slowly sing) Glo/ry/ hal/le/lu/jah!
Love that, Elsie! Gonna teach it to my kids for Easter.
Thank you for this wonderful alphabet. I’m 56 and have grown children. I’m going to learn this alphabet so I can pass it on to others! I have a song that goes with the ” doh ray me” scale. It’s a salvation message. I love sharing that one when the opportunity arises!
That sounds great, Elsie! Could you send me the words to that Do-Re-Mi scale? I love The Sound of Music and would enjoy learning the gospel message to one of those tunes!
